Keeping it!!!!!

'Promises are meant to be broken' is the line I fucking hate...It won't be called a promise if it is broken specially with the loved ones. Only those who are disciplined having positive attitude and love to have a sphisticated approach towards life and off course are innocent will purely agree with me. Anyways, I know , this blog is all about English and just to remind you that I promised you last time to come up with a new pattern in the upcoming article is what I'm going to keep. Well, I can break it if you say so :P.
Guys, why I've been concentrating on vocabulary building from the very start of this blog is because of the personal belief that if you want to understand the whole structure defined in a passage or any kind of reading that you're involved in, your vocabulary has to be damn good. And this fact applies to all the languages of the world. But just gulping down the meaning of the words won't help. There has to be some systematic approach and Genius to achieve that just like I have. Oh come on! I can tease you, you're my readers implies you're my friends afterall!!!
Today,I'll be talking about the roots in english language. Every word in english language has a certain history and a certain origin of itself. 'Roots' as the name suggests are the origins for a large number of words in English language. Actually roots are the words inherited from some foreign languages(well foreign to english), and adopted in the English language for the evolution of new words in the same. There are a lot of roots adopted from Greek, Latin and many other languages. Regarding the reader factor in mind, I'll keep this article short and limited upto some of the Greek roots.

Before we go ahead, let me convince you how important these roots will prove to be in your vocabulary building. I request you to ask yourself the meanings of the following words without looking at the dictionary:-
(i)Chronicle,
(ii)Microcosm,
(iii)Morphology,
(iv)Polyglot,
(v)Polyandry,
(vi)Pyre
If you were not able to tell the meanings of most of these words by yourself, don't worry, and don't look at the dictionary this time for the meanings. I bet, after reading this article, you'll be able to tell the meanings to these as well as to many more words like these.

GREEK ROOTS
(I)Root='chron'
chron means or denotes time
Therefore, if any word containing 'chron' comes infront of your eyes, you can simply predict the meaning that it surely is related to time.
Ex:-(a)Chronology: arrangement of events in order of their occurence[look out that it is related to time].
(b)Chronicle: A historic record[You'll simply translate the 'Chronicles of Narnia' in your own level of comfort].
(c)Chronometer: time piece
(d)Synchronous: Here 'syn' implies 'same' or 'similar', so tell me the meaning of this word...Oh come on! you can tell that now... Yeah, the meaning is 'Happening at the same time'

(II)Root='Micro'
micro means small
Ex:-(a)Microbe: Tiny organism.
    (b)Microcosm: Miniature representation of something.
(c)Microfilm: Miniature record of documents or a film.

(III)Root='Poly'
poly means many
Ex:-(a)Polyglot: 'glot' means tongue or language so Polyglot means the one who is competent in many languages
(b)Polythene, polygon etc. may be some more examples.

(Iv)Root='Morph'
morph means form
Ex:-(a)Morphology: A study of forms.
(b)Polymorphic: Since 'poly' means many and morph means form gives it the meaning 'Existing in many forms'
(c)Metamorphosis: meta indicates 'after' or 'change', therefore the meaning of this word goes to be 'change of form'

(V)Root='andr/gyn'
andr means man
gyn means woman
Ex:-(a)Androgen: Male harmone
    (b)Polyandry: having multiple husbands
(c)Gynaecologist: The doctor who treats the diseases particularly of females

(VI)Root='pyre'
pyre means 'fire'
Ex:-(a)Pyre: pile of burning material
    (b)Pyrogenic: producing heat
    (c)Pyrotechnics: relating to fireworks

Now, checkout the words I introduced to you at the starting to tell the meanings of, you'll surely answer them with confidence now.....
Again a promise to have healthy content in the next article as well...
Good bye....Enjoy English!!!!

(A)Lphabet!!!!!!

Hi guys!!!! Without going into any formal pleasantries, I'll directly jump to the formal article this time. The reason is that I thought,it's better to carry on the pattern of the last article and take onto a new one in the next one. So, I promise you all to propose you a new(innovative) pattern from the very next time. For now, just read this, gulp it down and yeah...Enjoy!!!

ADVERSE--(Unfavourable or hostile)
Ex.John received an adverse report from his boss.
AVERSE--(unwilling to do a thing)
Ex.I am averse to drinking.// Don't mind but it's from my side....Eeeeee....:)

Oh come on, it's okay yaar....Getting bored? okay, let's discuss it informally. Each and every single person commits mistakes and only a few of them confess their guilt but many admit it. What??? Confused??? Just a minute. Okay, listen, when you're saying that you're admitting your mistake, that simply means that you accept that it was your mistake but it does not necessarily show that you're ashamed of doing that. On the other side, if you're saying that you're confessing your guilt, it simply means that you're having an emotional feeling towards whatever you've done and you're not only accepting it but also feeling guilty for it. So that was the difference between ADMIT and CONFESS.
ADMIT--(to accept)
Ex.I admit my mistake.
Ex.He was admitted to the college.
CONFESS--(to acknowledge something as wrong)
Ex.The culprit confessed his guilt.

A couple of words that often confuses many of us is ADVERT and AVERT. So, let's have a look at them as well.....
ADVERT--(refer to in speech or writing)
Ex.In his series of lectures, he adverted to the problem of poverty.
AVERT--(prevent)
Ex.If we follow the traffic rules, many accidents can be averted.

See how easy those words were that confused us a lot. Let's have a look at another pair of words that is just awesome, and mind you, when I'm saying it's awesome, then it really is!!!!!! The pair is AFFECT and EFFECT. Loving it??? well, you'll love it  more once you're done with the concepts. Actually, EFFECT is used when we are talking about the consequences but AFFECT is the verb form of it, or say it means 'to influence'. Let's have a look at it formally...
AFFECT--(to influence, to induce(verb))
Ex.This will affect your career.
EFFECT--(n-consequence,v-to produce)
Ex.The bad effect of movies.

Now, I think you're loving this pair, aren't you? You'll love a few more that I'm introducing below...

AFFECTATION--(pretence, artificially of manner)
Ex.She didn't talk naturally. It was her affectation.
AFFECTION--(love, affinity, attachment)
Ex.Every mother has great affection for her children.
Let me add one more to it--I have a great affection for my sweetheart!!!

ALE--(wine, brew)
Ex.He has fallen in bad company and used to drink so much of ale at his own cost.
AIL--(ill, to)
Ex.What can possibly ail him? He is so despirited.

I hope you enjoyed this article as well and to remind you, I made a promise to come up with more 'A' lettered words and I did that. Well, that's not it, there's a lot to come....Be ready to enjoy with the tools of English grammar, till the next article...
Good Bye....
Take care!!!!!!!

The lovely letter 'A'

I love to write and I love the letter 'A'. Now, what if both of them comes together? Then I'll say, I'm in a very very hardcore lust with this. So here I am with the very first blog of mine on English reading, speaking, listening, writing(in short--English Freaking) with the motivation from my loveliest friend. Enjoy this informatory article on some  commonly confused words and I'm sure you'll love it. Once again, I love you, 'A'.

The very first word that I would like to tell about is ABLE as I've been ABLE of writing and I've been CAPABLE of writing this article on english. Did you notice what I just did there? Yes,  that's the difference between ABLE and CAPABLE. Now, study it formally--
ABLE(Power or strength in general):--Ex. He is ABLE to play.
CAPABLE(Power or strength in particular):--Ex. He is CAPABLE of running for 2 hours continuously.
Liked it??? let's look at some more lovely A's.

"How abnormal you are? Are you an alien?" That's how she makes fun of me. Once when I was reading a newspaper, I happened to read a news that said,'Woman gave birth to a subnormal child." So, I think, all these words are differentiable instead of not being continuous at any point. Sorry for the bad joke but those who know me surely know that me saying sorry is really a joke.
ABNORMAL(departure from regular type):--Ex. He exhibited a very ABNORMAL behaviour at the party.
SUBNORMAL(below normal):--Ex. She gave birth to a SUBNORMAL child.

Now, to accept your mistake is a good thing but to except it is the biggest mistake you can do in your life. Let's see how...
ACCEPT(approve):--Ex. I ACCEPT your offer.
EXCEPT(besides):--Ex. EXCEPT you all were present.

One more similar word-pair is---
ACCESS(approach):--Ex. I have no ACCESS to the Minister.
EXCESS(too much):--Ex. EXCESS of everything is bad.

Enjoying this aticle or not??? Oh come on...I know you definitely are, afterall she is my Accessary for all my works. Just a minute....what? I misspelt a word???? Are you mad???? I don't do that. Then, what the hell is Accessary? To get the meaning of a word in the very best way is to get it from the context in which it was used. Just have a reread of the above statement....still can't get it? Ok, study it formally then...
ACCESSARY(a helper or associate):--He was the ACCESSARY to the murder.
ACCESSORY(sparepart, additional):--Please purchase the accessories for your beautiful scooty pep+, sweetheart!!!

Well, don't mind the last statement much, ok....just love it, that's all I'll say. I hope you enjoyed this article. It'll be my immense pleasure if you have any queries and you want to share(or discuss for that matter) with me. You can simply put on a comment here or mail me at neeru.133@rediff.com. At last, I'll just say that this love and lust is not yet ended. Yup....you guessed it right....I'll come up with more amazing 'A' lettered words.
