Hi guys!!!! Without going into any formal pleasantries, I'll directly jump to the formal article this time. The reason is that I thought,it's better to carry on the pattern of the last article and take onto a new one in the next one. So, I promise you all to propose you a new(innovative) pattern from the very next time. For now, just read this, gulp it down and yeah...Enjoy!!!
ADVERSE--(Unfavourable or hostile)
Ex.John received an adverse report from his boss.
AVERSE--(unwilling to do a thing)
Ex.I am averse to drinking.// Don't mind but it's from my side....Eeeeee....:)
Oh come on, it's okay yaar....Getting bored? okay, let's discuss it informally. Each and every single person commits mistakes and only a few of them confess their guilt but many admit it. What??? Confused??? Just a minute. Okay, listen, when you're saying that you're admitting your mistake, that simply means that you accept that it was your mistake but it does not necessarily show that you're ashamed of doing that. On the other side, if you're saying that you're confessing your guilt, it simply means that you're having an emotional feeling towards whatever you've done and you're not only accepting it but also feeling guilty for it. So that was the difference between ADMIT and CONFESS.
ADMIT--(to accept)
Ex.I admit my mistake.
Ex.He was admitted to the college.
CONFESS--(to acknowledge something as wrong)
Ex.The culprit confessed his guilt.
A couple of words that often confuses many of us is ADVERT and AVERT. So, let's have a look at them as well.....
ADVERT--(refer to in speech or writing)
Ex.In his series of lectures, he adverted to the problem of poverty.
AVERT--(prevent)
Ex.If we follow the traffic rules, many accidents can be averted.
See how easy those words were that confused us a lot. Let's have a look at another pair of words that is just awesome, and mind you, when I'm saying it's awesome, then it really is!!!!!! The pair is AFFECT and EFFECT. Loving it??? well, you'll love it more once you're done with the concepts. Actually, EFFECT is used when we are talking about the consequences but AFFECT is the verb form of it, or say it means 'to influence'. Let's have a look at it formally...
AFFECT--(to influence, to induce(verb))
Ex.This will affect your career.
EFFECT--(n-consequence,v-to produce)
Ex.The bad effect of movies.
Now, I think you're loving this pair, aren't you? You'll love a few more that I'm introducing below...
AFFECTATION--(pretence, artificially of manner)
Ex.She didn't talk naturally. It was her affectation.
AFFECTION--(love, affinity, attachment)
Ex.Every mother has great affection for her children.
Let me add one more to it--I have a great affection for my sweetheart!!!
ALE--(wine, brew)
Ex.He has fallen in bad company and used to drink so much of ale at his own cost.
AIL--(ill, to)
Ex.What can possibly ail him? He is so despirited.
I hope you enjoyed this article as well and to remind you, I made a promise to come up with more 'A' lettered words and I did that. Well, that's not it, there's a lot to come....Be ready to enjoy with the tools of English grammar, till the next article...
Good Bye....
Take care!!!!!!!
